On Wednesday night I had the exclusive pleasure of attending the Wassy Dassy unveiling at the W Hotel in Old Montreal. After zipping up to the tenth floor, I was greeted by the sounds of DJ Amrew. Room 1005 was a loft set on two floors, with modern decor—namely an oversized navy couch that became the stage for the Wassy Dassy collection. The energy was just right; sparks were flying among the beautiful women eagerly waiting for the much-anticipated collection.
Marsha Fab came down, fabulous as usual, and announced that the prized items would arrive shortly. We continued chatting about our lives, our plans, and our excitement as we inhaled macarons and veggie patties, and sipped our citrus cocktails. Just when we thought the excitement would choke us, a group of women arrived in colourful custom pieces with artfully tied head wraps. We knew they had the goods long before our host, Dejha Carrington, made the announcement. As you can imagine, the rest is a wrap.
The Wassy Dassy collection isn’t for the faint-hearted. This is a bold brand with statement bags that are designed for people who own their style. Marsha Fab and her family are mixing bold African fabrics: Kente, Kitengem and Shweshwe with leather and denim to create a variety of unique accessories. No two pieces of this collection are the same; there are envelope and bucket bags of all sizes, as well as an abundance of clutches. Have you ever dreamt of designing your own purse? Well with Wassy Dassy you can choose the size, shape and fabrics you’d like—yes, they customize.
